BCIL - Birmingham Centre for Inclusive Living, is a major new resource with the aim of promoting independent living for disabled people. It is run and managed by disabled people for disabled people and BCIL is a cornerstone of Birmingham City Council's Social Model Action Plan.
Mission Statement: "to assist and support disabled people to live independently and to set up services that allow them the freedom of choice on how they will live their lives.
Services developed by BCIL will be aimed at the disability community gaining full participation in society. "
The role of Birmingham Centre for Inclusive Living
BCIL will develop services that promote independent living for disabled people by providing support, information, advice and sign posting on the following:
- Employment
- Health and Social Care
- Housing
- Mentoring for people within residential or dependency creating settings
- Welfare Rights
- Money Management
- Advocacy
- Peer Support
- Recreation
- Outreach and Community Support
- Personal Assistance Services
These services will be developed in partnership between BCIL and relevant supporting agencies.
